Julianne Moore joins film cast for 'Bel Canto' novel adaptation
American actress Julianne Moore has signed on to star alongside Ken Watanabe and Demian Bichir in a film adaptation of Ann Patchett's bestselling 2001 novel, "Bel Canto."
The feature, to be helmed by Paul Weitz from a screenplay he penned with Anthony Weintraub, will follow the plotlines of Patchett's 2001 novel, based on actual events in Peru during the mid-1990s (via Deadline).
Moore will play Roxane Coss, a famous American soprano, who travels to South America in the throes of a military dictatorship to give a private concert at the birthday party of rich Japanese industrialist Katsumi Hosokawa (Watanabe) and becomes embroiled in a hostage situation when the house is taken over by guerillas.
Caroline Baron and Weintraub will produce the project via their A-Line Pictures, alongside Weitz and Andrew Miano and their Depth of Field.
