Jungle Ventures appoints former Tencent executive as Principal, aims to strengthen China link

Jungle Ventures wants to help its portfolio companies “maximise cross-border opprotunity” to China through the appointment of Grace Xia

Singapore-based venture capital firm Jungle Ventures today announced the appointment of Grace Xia as Principal on its investment team.

Xia was the former senior director of corporate strategy and development at Chinese internet giant Tencent, and her appointment was meant to strengthen the firm’s presence in the Chinese market.

“We’re committed to investing in talent and building the leading investment platform in the region – we believe that Grace will be an asset in helping us realise that vision especially as both our portfolio and us look to collaborate more deeply with the China tech ecosystem,” said Jungle Ventures Managing Partner David Gowdey in a press statement.

e27 has reached out to Jungle Ventures spokesperson to find out more details about their plan for China.

The firm invests in early stage startups in Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia, and has portfolio companies in India. Some of its portfolio companies includes B2B marketplace Wydr, lending platform FinAccel, and video streaming platform iflix.

It named Temasek and IFC as backers, and has recently named Ratan Tata as a special advisor.

During her time at Tencent, Xia was in charge of identifying strategic opportunities in emerging markets, building
the company’s overseas product ecosystem, and deploying capital.

The Kauffman Fellow has “over a decade” of experiences in investment, corporate strategy and business development in early-stage startups and Fortune 50 companies; she has worked in both Silicon Valley and emerging markets in Asia.

“I’m looking forward to invesEng in extraordinary entrepreneurs who solve local market challenges with innovative technology and business model. I am also excited to work with our portfolio companies or Chinese tech companies and help maximise on the cross-border opportunity between Southeast Asia and China,” Xia said.
