Apparently The Lululemon Logo is Supposed to Be an ‘A’ and I’m So Confused

A solid pair of leggings is made up of a few important points:

  1. Stretchy Spandex blend

  2. Light-weight, but not see-through fabric

  3. High-rise cut

  4. Go-with-everything shade of black

For the most part, all leggings are pretty much the same – unless they've got the little circular logo that means they come from Lululemon. For fitness fanatics everywhere (and those of us who wholeheartedly believe that leggings are pants), that little design signifies quality, comfort, and support. But, like, what does it actually mean?

You see that tiny swirl stamped on butts across the country, but the meaning behind the athleisure company's logo is a total mystery. It looks like it could be a zodiac sign? Or a Greek omega? Or maybe like some shape that represents balance, since they started as a "yoga-inspired" apparel company?

Well, it's actually none of the above. This info is no longer on their website, but many websites report that at one point, Lululemon had this explanation on their History tab.

"The lululemon name was chosen in a survey of 100 people from a list of 20 brand names and 20 logos. The logo is actually a stylized 'A' that was made for the name 'athletically hip', a name which failed to make the grade."

The brand itself won't comment on the logo design (believe me, I tried), so we might never know for sure what it really stands for – other than pure, butt-hugging joy.
