Kanye West to pay George Floyd's daughter's college tuition fees as part of a $2million donation
Kanye West has donated a multi-million dollar sum which covers the college tuition for George Floyd’s daughter.
The 42-year-old hip-hop star set up a college savings fund to fully cover future tuition fees for Floyd's six-year-old child, Gianna, following the death of Floyd in Minnesota last week.
West has also made a separate donation to cover the legal costs of the families of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor. Arbery was killed earlier this year after being fatally shot while going for a jog in Georgia, while Taylor was shot at least eight times in March in her own apartment by plainclothes Louisville officers.
The Stronger rapper is also donating to several Black-owned businesses in his hometown of Chicago, and across the States, his rep confirmed to celebrity website TMZ.
The news comes after West flew out to Chicago to join protesters campaigning in the wake of Floyd’s death, which happened after a police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes.
The incident - which was filmed by a bystander - has sparked protests in all 50 American states and across the world, with a number of celebrities joining those vocally supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.
West’s wife, Kim Kardashian, has offered to pay for the medical bills of a young protester Shannyn Sharyse Nara, who was hit by a rubber bullet.
Elsewhere, John Boyega has been applauded for using his platform to highlight injustices to the Black community, before giving an emotional speech at London’s peaceful protest in Hyde Park.
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have donated £161,000 to the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People and vowed to teach their three children "about our bias, blindness and our own mistakes."
