Karamo Brown Has Spent Quarantine Cuddling His Dog, and Honestly, Same

October is national Adopt a Dog Month, and Karamo Brown is the celebration's de facto godfather. The Queer Eye star and proud dog-dad has partnered with Febreze to encourage people to adopt a new furry friend this month. "Right now we're in a state where we all could use a little extra love to not feel so alone," Brown tells Woman's Day. "Especially during quarantine when you can't connect with people, just to have your dog to cuddle up with really helps your mental health and emotional health."

And though you might be enticed to adopt a puppy — and if you are, absolutely do it! — Brown's relationship with his 16-year-old minipinchuaua, Logan Patrick Michael, has given him a new outlook on elderly dogs. "I think sometimes we as a culture don't really revere aging," Brown says. "Especially when we talk about our culture with women, we don't revere the beauty of getting older and the maturity, we make it seem like it's a bad thing that I'm getting older, when we should really be looking at it like look at the wisdom I've gained, look at what I've learned about myself. There's something sexy and comfortable about that. "

And I think the same way about senior dogs now," he continues, "where it's like puppies are cute, yes, but I want somebody who's aware, who's already potty trained, who knows themselves, who wants to cuddle." That's why Brown says the next dog he adopts will probably be elderly.

Having Logan Patrick Michael by his side has helped Brown stay positive during the ongoing pandemic, and he hopes that adopting dogs will give that same feeling of support to others, as well. "I love him to death," he says. "It's really important to have someone or something that when you come home loves you unconditionally. No matter what the world was saying to you that brought you down, that made you feel like you were less than, when you walk into the house with a dog they're like where have you been? They're happy that you're there, and that's a beautiful feeling."
