Kate Garraway has admitted it's "uncomfortable" watching Matt Hancock on I'm A Celebrity.

The Good Morning Britain presenter's husband Derek Draper spent more than a year in hospital after getting the coronavirus in 2020 and although he is back home he now requires round the clock care.

Sharing her thoughts on former health secretary Hancock entering the ITV reality show, Garraway said she thought it felt uncomfortable for many people and that he needed to show a "a sense of the pain" over what many have gone through.

She said she'd want to ask him and "try to get to the bottom of how he really felt about it".

"I think there is a very visceral gut reaction to Matt Hancock as he’s there as a very famous face of the time that was miserable for the entire country and we are still living with the consequences of aren't we?" she said.

"There will be people watching whose grief is still very very raw from losing people and they won't see that rawness of grief and sadness in the way that Matt Hancock is behaving on screen, because he’s laughing and having fun and trying to get to know a new group of people."

Garraway, who has two children with Draper, said that because everyone on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! is usually out of their comfort zone there is a tendency to want to let people be open and be who they are and not be judged.

"You see revelations of personality and things coming out – you see that as a campmate and as a viewer, which is fantastic," said the TV star.

"I think the challenge is, you’re going to see him laughing and being human and being the personable person that I’m sure he is to his family and friends, and that feels uncomfortable, I think, for so many people when there’s still so much unanswered, actually.

"Seeing him in there with the inquiries and investigations and all those things still going on, I think the only thing he can do really to help those people is to show, at some point, that he has a real sense of the pain."
