Kate Hudson Says Her House Is 'Still Standing' After Fiancé Danny Fujikawa Stayed Behind to Help Fight Fires

Kate Hudson is sharing an update on her Los Angeles home amid the destructive wildfires.

On Thursday, Jan. 23, the actress and musician, 45, shared a series of videos to her Instagram Stories, in which she spoke candidly about how her fiancé, Danny Fujikawa, as well as his brother, Michael, stayed behind when the rest of the family evacuated to try and help protect their house and neighborhood.

"I wanted to check in and just say thank you for all of your support and concern and thoughts and prayers for us," the Knives Out star began the candid video, as her 6-year-old daughter Rani Rose sits on the couch beside her. "We went back into the Palisades… I went back for the first time. It was a very intense day. We're very lucky our house is still standing."

"But we are in the center of a lot of our friends and people we love very much, whether they be homeowners, store owners, people who work in our community," she continued. "They’ve lost their homes and their jobs and things, so we are definitely just trying to support our community as much as we can."

Hudson went on to thank her many social media followers and fans for checking in on her, and reassured her audience that she would keep everyone updated on how rebuilding and recovery are going.

"All the other people affected in Los Angeles, all the first responders, the firemen, the pilots are just incredible, and all the neighbors who stayed behind," she continued. Among the people she thanked for their brave efforts was her fiancé.

Turning to Rani Rose she says, "Daddy and Uncle Michael, who stayed behind and put out spot fires. All the other brave people fighting to protect us...We're so grateful."

Hudson and Fujikawa, a musician, welcomed Rani in 2018 and got engaged in 2021. The actress is also mom to sons Ryder, 21, and Bingham, 13.

While Hudson was lucky to have her house come through unscathed, many celebrities have lost their homes in the fires, including Billy Crystal, Anna Faris, Paris Hilton, Candy Spelling, Cameron Mathison, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, Ricki Lake, and Anthony Hopkins.

The destructive Palisades Fire first began in the L.A. neighborhood of Pacific Palisades on Jan. 7, and has since burned more than 23,700 acres, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. On the other side of L.A. County, the Eaton fire also began on Jan. 7 and has burned more than 14,000 acres. Additional fires have also sprung up around the Southern California region.

PEOPLE previously reported on Jan. 16, per the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, that there have been 27 deaths so far.
