Kate Middleton-Approved Label The Vampire's Wife Launches H&M Collaboration
Ironically, by committing to a singular vision—that of a gothic glamour, part Morticia Addams and part Old Hollywood starlet—the Vampire's Wife has won over celebrities of all stripes: everyone from Kate Middleton to Maya Rudolph to Miranda Kerr has slipped into the label's silken, ruffled frocks. And now, it's about to get even more ubiquitous.
The beloved brand is the latest high-end label to partner with H&M on a collaboration, making its cult-favorite styles available at a radically reduced price point. The range includes a romantic cape, fingerless lace gloves, a tongue-in-cheek vampire-inspired necklace, and much more. Said the Vampire's Wife designer Susie Cave in a statement, "I hope this collection gives as much joy to those who wear it, as it did for me to create it."
It's not hard to imagine that it will. Key to the brand's broad appeal is its promise of self-possession; by summoning the witch's visual vocabulary in its spools of velvet and lace, the Vampire's Wife is selling a certain kind of powerful womanhood as much as a mystical fantasy.
It's what Maria Ostblom, Head of Womenswear Design at H&M, calls a "celebratory approach to femininity." As she explained to T&C, "By creating hyper-feminine pieces, H&M and the Vampire's Wife encourage the wearer to be as feminine, bold or demure as they want, defying the stereotypes often wrongly associated with frills and fancy."
