Kate Middleton Might Not Become Princess Of Wales When Charles Becomes King
When the Queen dies (sob) or if she abdicates before that, Charles will become King. As everyone shuffles up the line of succession, William will become Prince of Wales and, by virtue, Kate's new title will be the Princess of Wales.
But as one royal expert highlighted, Kate Middleton may never become the Princess of Wales like her late mother-in-law Diana.
People NOW's royal correspondent, Imogen Lloyd-Webber, recently pointed out that "Camilla is actually Princess of Wales but, because of Diana, she opted to be the Duchess of Cornwall."
She continued: 'At some moment, William is going to become Prince of Wales. At that moment there’s the question, is Kate going to choose to be called Princess of Wales?'
And Lloyd-Webber raises an interesting point; Kate could theoretically choose whether to adopt the title of 'Princess of Wales' as her official one when Charles becomes King, or whether to use one of her secondary titles instead - like continuing to be the Duchess of Cambridge, for example.
Prince Edward did something similar in exercising his choice of title. While his brothers, Prince Charles and Prince Andrew, are both Dukes, he has instead opted instead to go by the title 'Earl of Wessex'.
But the likelihood of the Duchess actually forgoing the 'Princess of Wales' title is fairly slim. It's understandable that Camilla Parker-Bowles chose to avoid it when she married Prince Charles, given all the history and context. For Kate Middleton, on the other hand, it's more likely to be seen as an honour and privilege to step into Diana's former role.
Plus, why wouldn't she want to be a real life Princess?!
