Kate Middleton Stuns in Head-to-Toe Teal on St. Patrick's Day
Kate Middleton and Prince William got into the St. Patrick's Day spirit earlier today with the 1st Battalion Irish Guards at their annual parade in Aldershot, England.
Wearing head-to-toe teal, the Princess of Wales was all smiles while presenting symbolic shamrocks to the Irish Guards as part of a royal custom that dates back to 1901. For the celebratory outing, she opted for a bespoke Catherine Walker coatdress with matching Gianvito Rossi pumps and a Jane Taylor London hat, and topped off the stylish outfit with a gold Cartier shamrock brooch that has a rich royal history. It's said the holiday-appropriate piece is owned by the Irish Guards but is loaned to the royal women associated with the regiment. The pin has previously been donned by Princess Anne and the Queen Mother but Kate has worn it exclusively since 2011.
During the event, Kate and Will—who was dressed in a military uniform—got to chat with the Battalion and their families and take part in a traditional toast with Guinness. They even got to meet their adorable mascot, an adorable Irish wolfhound named Turlough Mor (also known as Seamus!), and hand him a little shamrock sprig of his own.
This year's St. Patrick's Day Parade was particularly special for Kate as it is her first time participating as the Colonel of the Irish Guards. Prince William previously held the honorary position up until late last year, when King Charles made him the Colonel of the Welsh Guards, fitting with his new title as the Prince of Wales.
Addressing the Battalion, William said that he was "extremely happy to be here celebrating St Patrick’s Day," but was "incredibly sad to be giving this speech, as it really does mean my time as your Colonel has come to an end." He went on to say how being the Colonel of the Irish Guards was "one of the great honours of my life" and how "proud of everything it stands for."
In a speech of her own, Kate said, "I really couldn’t be prouder to stand in front of you here today. It really is a true honour to be your Colonel. I am here to listen to you, to support you, and to champion you in all you do – this is a responsibility I do not take lightly."
Concluding her statement, she added: "I look forward to spending more time with you and your families, seeing your commitment to duty and service in all you do."
