Kathryn Bigelow and Robert Irwin to be honored at 2016 LACMA event

Director Kathryn Bigelow will be honored at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's annual Art+Film gala

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is set to honor artist Robert Irwin and director Kathryn Bigelow at its sixth annual Art+Film gala, which will take place on October 29 at the museum.

The gala, presented by Gucci and co-chaired by Eva Chow and Leonardo DiCaprio, will pay tribute to Irwin, who pioneered the "Light and Space" art movement in the 1960s, and to two-time Oscar-winning director and film producer Bigelow, on account of her contributions to the film industry (via WWD).

The event will see Bigelow and Irwin join the ranks of past honorees including Alejandro González Iñárritu, who won his second directing Oscar earlier this year for "The Revenant," and artist James Turrell, who were honored at last year's gala.

Money raised via the annual art fundraiser will go towards making film more central to the museum's curatorial programming, as well as to exhibitions and other museum functions.
