YAN: Cupcakes made by a baker here, which feature the logos of political parties, have become an instant hit.
Azrul Nizam Azali, 26, of Kampung Tengah, Kuala Sungai Yan, here, said he was hesitant at first because he feared he would get the colours and tones wrong.
“The colours have to be perfect because it is a sensitive matter. My customer might not be happy if I cannot meet their expectations,” he said at his house yesterday.
He added that he decided to take up the challenge because general elections were only held once every five years.
“It was trial and error until I found the correct colours for the logos of all the parties.”
Azrul’s 14th General Election (GE14) special edition cupcake become an instant hit when he uploaded pictures of the small cakes on his social media account.
He said he had already baked 500 cupcakes for the various political parties.
Azrul sells 25 cupcakes for RM50.
“I have received many orders for GE14 cupcakes for birthday celebrations at district polling centres, party headquarters and operation centres,” he said.

“I am also taking orders for 1kg cakes bearing logos of political parties. They are priced at RM75 each.
“The GE14 special edition cupcakes and 1kg cakes are strictly for business. I do not belong to any political party.
“In fact, I will consider taking orders for cakes with the images of political leaders.”
Azrul added that he was also thrilled because he would be casting his vote for the first time.
Once the election was over, he said, he would be focusing on orders for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Azrul had previously baked a giant National Day cake with 1,500 Merdeka cupcakes and 24 cakes with the image of the Kedah football team when they made it to Malaysia Cup finals last year. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
