SUNGAI PETANI: Police rescued a 28-year-old Bangladeshi man, believed to be a kidnap victim, from a house at Lorong Gamelan 3/1, Taman Ria Jaya, here.
The man, whose left wrist was handcuffed and both legs chained, was found in a weak condition at the premises at about 1.30am on Saturday.
Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zukir Md Isa said the victim was found with bruises on various parts of his body.
“We found a rotan, a metal pipe, a rubber pipe and dried chilies inside the house. These items are believed to have been used to torture the victim,” he said in a statement.
Zukir said police have arrested three suspects, aged between 28 and 33, in connection with the case.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim was subjected to the ordeal after the suspects accused him of stealing RM20,000 from a family entertainment outlet.
“The three men were remanded from yesterday until March 14 to facilitate investigation under Section 356 of the Penal Code for kidnapping, and Section 324 of the same Code for causing hurt to the victim,” he said.
Zukir added that police also detained the victim for 14 days under the Immigration Act.
