Kedah Sultan's 89th birthday attended by 15,000 subjects


SUNGAI PETANI: The Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah and Kedah Sultanah, Tuanku Hajah Haminah, graced a public reception held in conjunction with His Majesty's 89th birthday, on the grounds of the Amanjaya Mall here today.

Also present were Raja Muda of Kedah, Tan Sri Tunku Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah and Raja Puan Muda Kedah, Tengku Maliha Tengku Arif; Tunku Bendahara Kedah, Tan Sri Tunku Abdul Hamid Thani Sultan Badlishah; Tunku Temenggong Kedah, Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Sultan Abdul Halim; and Tunku Laksamana Kedah Datuk Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Tunku Sallehuddin.

Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah and state executive councilors were also present at the event, which was attended by about 15,000 people.

The guests were entertained by a saxophone performance by Zainal Abdul Rahman, songs by 60s singer, A. Halim, as well as a multicultural show involving the Thai, Chinese and Indian communities.

Meanwhile, State Education, Transport and Non-Government Organisations Committee chairman Datuk Tajul Urus Mat Zain, who was also the organising chairman for the reception, said the gathering was the highlight among 30 events arranged for the Kedah Sultan's birthday.
