Kelantan police chief laid to rest in hometown

BACHOK: Late Kelantan police chief Datuk Dr Ab Rahman Ismail, who passed away yesterday, was buried at his hometown in Kampung Badak here this morning.

More than 1,000 senior police officers, relatives and friends attended the funeral at the Kampung Badak cemetery here.

Among those present were Deputy Inspector-General of police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim, deputy state police chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Din Ahmad and several senior police and government officers.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob and state officers had attended prayers for Ab Rahman at the An-Naim mosque in Jelawat yesterday.

Ab Rahman passed away at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur following a heart attack. He was 59.

Speaking to reporters after the funeral, Noor Rashid described Ab Rahman as a hard working person and said his death is a big loss to the police force.

"Although, he was new in Kelantan (as the police chief), he made a lot of changes and improvements, especially to the public.

"He was also successful in combating the drug menace in the state," he said.
