Updated 22 August 2018:

Kendall Jenner has responded to the backlash over her comments to Love magazine saying she was “misrepresented” in the interview and that her words were “twisted and taken out of context”.

Taking to Twitter, the model directed a series of tweets towards her fellow models saying the “respect that I have for my peers is immeasurable”.

There’s no denying Kendall Jenner is at the top of her game.

Between the countless designer campaigns, Vogue covers galore and many turns on high-profile catwalks, the 22-year-old appears to be dominating the fashion scene. And the proof is in the pudding: just last year, Forbes named Kendall the highest-paid supermodel in the world.

While there’s no denying Kendall has the natural talent and looks to back it up, her rise is often criticised as a product of nepotism.

Sadly, Kendall’s latest comments haven’t helped her cause.

In an Instagram post by Love magazine, Kendall was quoted as saying: “Since the beginning we’ve been super selective about what shows I would do. I was never one of those girls who would do like 30 shows a season or whatever the f*** those girls do. More power to ’em.

“But I had a million jobs, not only catwalks but everything else. The whole combination was very overwhelming and I started to freak out a little bit and needed to take a step back.”

Kendall has taken a noticeable step back from the catwalks in the past few seasons, not walking a single show during February 2018’s autumn/winter season.

Understandably, her comments haven’t been taken well by other working models, with many saying they only highlight her privilege.

In reality, working models are likely to walk up to 80 shows a season– far more than Kendall’s suggested 30 – and are paid minimum.

Polish model Jac Jagaciak said of the comments, “This makes me so angry… So disrespectful to literally 99 percent of people in the industry—yes they had to work their way up. Please get in touch with the real world!”

Russian supermodel Daria Strokous echoed these sentiments, writing, “whatever [sic] the f*** those girls do’ is do their very best to make their way up AND try to make some money so that they can provide for themselves and their families,” adding, “Oh and it’s 70 shows a season by the way and we all are f***ing proud of every single one of the girls that did it.”

Model Irina Djuranovic wrote on her Instagram stories, “Never been so indirectly and publicly offended in entire life god damn!”

Since the backlash, a representative for Jenner has said: “The quote was taken out of context. Mid-thought she realised the number of shows some models walk a season is closer to 80. The point was that it’s their path and ‘the more power to them.’ She admires their hard work and dedication. It’s an accomplishment.”

It’s not the first time reports that Jenner has fallen out with fellow models: during her debut season in September 2014, it was reported that other models ‘picked on’ the model.

A source told InTouch: “The other models worked so hard to get a spot on the runway and didn’t think it was fair she was there. Some [of the models] put out their cigarettes in Kendall’s drink. They thought she was getting special treatment and just weren’t OK with it.”

However, Kendall’s mum Kris Jenner denied the claims saying that the fellow models were like “a sorority.”

Following this, models Lexi Boling and Binx Walton were accused of ‘bulling’ Kendall after leaving sarcastic comments with laughing emojis on a photo of her posted by Vogue Germany.

In 2014, Kendall gave an interview to Love magazine in which she spoke about her ambitions as a model.

“I was like, ‘You know what? I want to be high fashion. I want to be taken seriously.’ People think that this [success] just came to me. But it didn’t. What I have has almost worked against me. I had to work even harder to get where I wanted because people didn’t take me seriously as a model. I went on castings and some people weren’t feeling me because of my name.”
