KINABATANGAN: Rescuers searching for victims of the Keningau mudslide found the body of a seventh victim – an 11-year-old boy – yesterday.

The boy was one of 11 people who were swept into a river by a mudslide which hit their home on April 1.

District police chief Superintendent A. Sahak Rahmat said the team was informed by the public yesterday about the body, spotted at Sungai Labau, Kampung Masaum, near here.

"The team reached the location at 8.56pm and found the body at Sungai Millian, which (is shallow at the moment).

"They brought it back to the Pinangah jetty at 10.45pm," he said in a statement.

The boy’s father, who survived the tragedy – Abdul Kahalayan, 50 – has made a positive identification of his son.

Abdul, his wife Zalikah Malingkut, 50 and son Joshnam, 18, survived the deadly mudslide which occurred when the family was sleeping in their quarters at an oil palm plantation.

Zalikah, however, died on Monday due to a bacterial infection.

Searchers last week managed to find the bodies of six children scattered throughout the district in Kampung Masaum, Kampung Mangkawago, Kampung Pasik and Sungai Millian.

Sahak added that the 11th mudslide victim, Asma, 37, is still missing.
