Keramat technician pleads guilty to supporting IS through WeChat


KUALA LUMPUR: A 21-year-old air-conditioning technician, who promoted terrorism acts via messaging app WeChat, pleaded guilty at the High Court today.

Ahmad Faris Zulkefli admitted that he had – through his WeChat ID 'mujahidin33', using the name 'Pak Kodi' – encouraged acts of terrorism.

He also pleaded guilty to a second charge of possessing items related to the Islamic State (IS), which included a black t-shirt with the IS logo and images related to the terrorist group on his iPad.

He committed the offences at 16-0-2, Kelumpuk Teratai 16, Jalan 5/56 AU3, Keramat here, between June 9 and Aug 29, last year.

Judge Datuk Azman Abdullah fixed tomorrow for Ahmad Faris' sentencing, pending facts of the case.

The unrepresented accused was charged on Sept 23, last year at the magistrate's court, but no plea was recorded then.

He entered his guilty plea today when his case came up for mention at the High Court for the first time.
