Kevin Smith has responded to the discovery he was an answer on UK quiz show The Chase.

One contestant on the ITV series and their appointed “chaser” Anne Hegarty were asked: “View Askewniverse is a term for a set of films by which director?”

The director, whose films Clerks, Mallrats and Chasing Amy are among those set in the fictional universe, was named alongside George Lucas and Tim Burton.

While the contestant chose Lucas, Hegarty guessed the answer correctly.

After the official Twitter accout of an indie documentary exploring Smith’s fandom highighted his appearance on the show, Smith himself wrote: “Flattered as f*** to keep company with legends.”

He continued: “Likely the only time you’ll see this ‘director’ mentioned with those actual Directors. But it looks like the contestant didn’t know my stuff? Means I’ve got more work to do to get famous. (Your flick will help that, @KevHeadsDoc).

In a recent interview with The Independent, the actor, director and podcaster spoke about the changes in his life post-heart attack, a potential third Clerks film, and why he doesn’t believe ‘woke culture’ is killing comedy.
