Christmas at Kew: What's happening?

Kew's after-dark winter trail is returning for its eighth year, however in 2020 it's taking a new route through the illuminated Rose Garden.

There will be plenty of twinkling light installations to wow kids and adults alike, including a glittering tunnel of bells, giant illuminated seed heads and trees wrapped in light on the way to a treetop waterfall lit up by beams of moving light.

There will also be fiery sculptures glowing brightly in the scented Fire Garden.

Kew's iconic Temperate House, a Grade 1 listed showhouse for plants, will also be lit up by laser projections.

At the Palm House Pond, there'll be a light show accompanied by your favourite festive tunes.

It's not all about treats for your eyes, though. Street food vendors will be on hand to provide some delicious snacks and you'll be able to book a traditional Christmas dinner at Kew’s Botanical restaurant. There's also be spiced cider, mulled wine and hot chocolate on sale to warm you up on a chilly winter's night.

Christmas at Kew: Covid-19 advice

Of course, Christmas 2020 plans must come with a heavy dose of health and safety planning in regard to the coronavirus pandemic.

Kew has assured visitors they can "come along knowing that the safety and wellbeing of our visitors is of the upmost importance to us and we are continually monitoring and responding to the Covid-19 pandemic situation as it evolves."

At this stage, Kew has said it's adding extra time slots, using an additional gate and revising the trail route to manage visitor flow. There will also be additional cleaning across the route each night.

The rides and catering facilities normally present are under review, and at present Kew does not plan the funfair to be included.

If Christmas at Kew is cancelled, you will be notified and offered an alternative date, if available, or a full refund.
