Kid Cudi has spoken out about his “brother” Kanye West‘s politics, saying he “totally disagrees” with him.

In a new interview with Esquire, Cudi – who is playing a Donald Trump supporter in HBO’s miniseries We Are Who We Are – discussed West’s longtime support of the US president.

“I think he knows where I stand, and I think he doesn’t bring it up to me,” he said. “We just don’t talk about it.

“I totally disagree with it; I think he knows that. And if he doesn’t know, he knows now.”

Despite not aligning with West politically, Cudi clarified that he still considers his fellow rapper a close friend.

“That’s my brother,” he said. “I’ll go on record: That’s my brother. I love him. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to agree with everything he f***ing says and he f***ing does, you know?”

West helped Cudi achieve success, inviting him to collaborate on 2008's 808s & Heartbreak, and serving as a producer on Cudi's hit debut album, Man on the Moon: The End of Day.

In July, West said he no longer supported Trump after announcing his own bid for the 2020 presidential race.

Speaking to Forbes magazine, the artist said he was “taking the red hat off, with this interview”.

“It looks like one big mess to me,” he said of Trump’s presidency. “I don’t like that I caught wind that he hid in the bunker.”

Discussing his controversial Trump hat, which he wore in public on a number of occasions, West said: “One of the main reasons I wore the red hat as a protest to the segregation of votes in the Black community. Also, other than the fact that I like Trump hotels and the saxophones in the lobby.”
