Kim Jae Woong Wants To Make Martin Nguyen ‘Roll In Pain And Give Up’

“The Fighting God” Kim Jae Woong could put himself in a position to challenge for the ONE Featherweight World Championship – if he beats his next opponent, that is.

The #5-ranked featherweight contender takes on former titleholder Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen at ONE: REVOLUTION on Friday, 24 September.

“First of all, I think Martin Nguyen is a great fighter and a role model, and I consider him as one of the best,” Kim said.

“He’s a fighter who I respected and enjoyed watching even before I joined ONE Championship, which is why I wanted to fight with him, no matter what. He’s already been the World Champion, so I want to beat him, prove myself, and become the best by fighting with the best.”

The South Korean’s motivation and goals are simple to understand. But beating the man who held the strap for three years will be anything but easy– and he knows it. All the same, Kim has a game plan that he believes will put him ahead of the Vietnamese-Australian.

“I know his strengths and weaknesses a lot more than he knows mine. For a long time, I have contemplated on how to beat him, so this time, I am 200 percent confident,” Kim said.

“Martin is good at curved [punches], but I throw linear and curved [strikes]. In my opinion, I think I have more skills in striking. Nguyen has one right hook, but I have much more options than that, so I think I can beat him with ease.”

“The Fighting God” has faced mostly grapplers so far, such as Tetsuya “MMA Fantasista” Yamada, who he knocked out in the second round in December of last year.

Against Martin, however, he’s going to meet a dangerous striker, like himself. “The Situ-Asian” has nine knockout wins to his name, and after losing his belt to Thanh Le by KO, Nguyen’s raring to get back to old form.

But Kim is confident that he will hit Martin in all the right places, score the knockout win, and move one step closer to his dream of challenging for the ONE Featherweight World Championship.

“I will make sure Martin Nguyen’s chin, temple, and abdomen are the only three parts that I am going for,” he said.

“And with these three parts, I will weaken his mentality by making him faint or roll in pain and give up.”
