Kim Kardashian Broke CA’s Non-Essential Travel Ban for 40th Birthday Vacation in Tahiti

From ELLE

For months, California has been under a non-essential travel ban, with the state advising citizens to avoid traveling unless it is urgent or for business. "You can travel for urgent matters or if such travel is essential to your permitted work," the state wrote on its COVID site. "Even though businesses around the state are opening up, avoid traveling long distances for vacations or pleasure as much as possible. This is to slow the spread of the coronavirus."

But Kim Kardashian and her family ignored these guidelines again so Kim could celebrate her 40th birthday with a six-day vacation in Tahiti, according to E!. She rented a private island and flew all her guests using a private jet. These out-of-state trips are something the family has done several times this year, controversially and despite soaring COVID numbers across the country.

This was not a small birthday party with just Kim's immediate family, the people who she is quarantining with. Kim brought a big group of people. It's unclear from E!'s report whether they were all tested for COVID-19 beforehand or whether they wore masks on the trip. In the photos Kim, Kendall Jenner, and Kourtney Kardashian shared of themselves there, they weren't wearing masks.

But Kim explained on Twitter that she made everyone take precautions before the trip. "After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time," she wrote.

California currently is allowing outdoor gatherings for people from "no more than three separate households" where the duration is "two hours or less." The state recommends masks be worn and social distancing be observed.

"She chartered the Crystal Luxury Jet to fly everyone privately and they left LA early Tuesday morning, the day before her actual birthday," a source told E!. "They had multiple events to celebrate Kim turning 40. It was a mix of family, old friends and newer friends and they took over the entire private island for an incredible week of activities."

Guests included Kim's mother Kris Jenner, her sisters Khloé Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, and Kendall Jenner, and her brother, Rob Kardashian. Kylie, it seems, skipped out and was in Houston with her daughter Stormi and ex-boyfriend Travis Scott. Don't worry, they aren't getting back together, a source assured E!. "They are just friends. There's nothing going on with them."

But Kim's birthday vacation, even with Kylie's absence, was full of people. "Everyone close to Kim from all aspects of her life were there," E!'s source said. "Kris, Corey, Kourtney, Khloe and Tristan, Kendall and Rob joined along with several girlfriends that she has known since grade school."

"Everyone came together and showed their love and respect for her," the source added. "They had slide show of her life and nightly parties. During the day, they took boat rides, went snorkeling, walked on the beach and tanned by the pool. It was an epic and memorable week that nobody will forget." It's a shame that it couldn't wait until after the pandemic was over.
