Kin Men Seng Heng set to open second outlet at cloud kitchen in Tampines North serving authentic halal braised ducks
Singapore’s oldest and first halal Hokkien braised duck (since 1976), Kin Men Seng Heng, will be opening its second outlet at Tampines Food Co, a cloud kitchen in Tampines North, towards the end of Dec 2022.
Its current and only stall is located at Amoy Street Food Centre. The new location will feature a collect-kiosk for self-collection and food delivery personnel. There’s also space for customers who wish to dine-in.
For those who aren’t familiar with Kin Men Seng Heng’s story, its original owner, Grandpa Koh, came to Singapore from Taiwan during World War Two when he was only 9 years old. It took him 31 years of hardship to finally achieve his dream of creating and running his own braised duck business. Currently, his grandson is in charge of the store.
The new outlet will retain its signature Braised Duck Rice and Braised Duck Noodles.
When I visited their outlet at Amoy Street Food Centre, I had their Braised Duck Rice and I thought it looked and tasted really familiar to the usual chicken rice, albeit a really good one.
The duck slices had a herbal twang and a slightly gamey taste towards the end. The soup that came with it was both peppery with the familiar herbal whiffs and complemented the duck meat, especially with the refreshing pieces of coriander and chives.
I also had the Braised Duck Noodle which came soaked in the same satisfying soup. However, this time, the soup had been infused into the duck meat, making it taste 10 folds better.
You might want to opt for kway teow noodles instead of the yellow noodles to get a full appreciation of the soup, as it is more neutral tasting compared to the yellow noodles.
It was with the noodles that I found the chilli paste to be useful as the heat and garlic flavours added another satisfying depth to the robust flavours of the soup. I later learned that it’s actually a family recipe created by the grandmother of the owner through much trial and error.
Though not much information about its menu, prices or opening hours are available at its newest outlet at Tampines Food Co, we look forward to its opening as 2022 comes to a close. It’s always good news when good food becomes more accessible!
