NUEVA VIZCAYA,Philippines — The distribution of compensations for the kin of the victims who died in the bus accident in Nueva Ecija last week began last on Saturday.

Passenger Accident Management and Insurance Agency Incorporated (PAMI), the insurance provider of Leomarick Transbus said 24 of the beneficiaries of the 35 fatalities in the accident were given P200,000

“So we decided na magbibigay kami ngayon ng P200,000 instead of P100,000 as partial payment, so finull napo namin without asking other documentations (So we decided to give P200,000 now instead of P100,000 as partial payment. So we have given the full amount without asking for other documents.) ,” PAMI Operations Manager Bong Nocum said.

President Rodrigo Duterte also gave P20,000 financial aid to the bereaved families.

The victims’ kin were delighted by the compensation and cash assistance from President Duterte, although they cannot avoid grieving for their relatives’ demise.

“Malaking tulong din naman po sa amin yun kaso syempre para sa amin masakit pa rin din yun na hindi naman sapat kabayaran sa buhay ng anak ko at asawa ko ring namatay,” Marilyn Gonzales, kin of bus crash victims said. (That is a big help for us. But it is still painful because this is not enough payment for the life of my child and my husband who both died in the accident.)

“Kahit natanggap na namin yung pera parang masakit pa rin sa kalooban dahil parang binayaran yung buhay ng nanay namin (Although we have received the compensation, it is still painful because it looks as if they paid for the life of our mother) ,” Charina Valdomino, kin of a victim said.

One of the claimants was not able to claim the compensation due to problems with the required documents.

“May lacking requirements daw, kailangan ng spot report dun sa PNP kasi unidentified yung victim (There are requirements lacking. There must be a spot report from the PNP since the victim was unidentified),” claimant Homer Saturno said.

The claimant needs to return for the second batch of distribution of compensation among victims to be held on April 25. — Joshua Antonio | UNTV News & Rescue
