PUTRAJAYA: The Yang-di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V today graced the Trooping of the Colours ceremony at Dataran Pahlawan, here.
The pledge of allegiance by the Armed Forces to the King as its Supreme Commander was held in conjunction with the birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
His Majestr’s arrival at 10.55am was followed by a rendition of the national anthem and a 21-gun salute fired by a team from the 41st ceremonial battery of the Royal Artillery Regiment led by Major Mohd Asri Che Wil.
Five helicopters from thr Armed Forces flew past, led by Major Narul Nizam Ismail.
Also in attendance were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Deputy Defence Minister Liew Chin Tong and newly appointed Army Chief Datuk Seri Panglima Ahmad Hasbullah Mohd Nawawi.
The five pennants paraded at the ceremony represented the Royal Malay Regiment (RMR), Royal Ranger Regiment (RRR), Royal Armoured Corps (RAC), Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) and Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).
Sultan Muhammad V also inspected the guard-of-honour mounted by 28 officers and 550 personnel of other ranks headed by first battalion RMR commanding officer Lieutenant-Colonel Mohd Radzi Othman.
After the inspection, the combination of the army’s Central Bands under the leadership of Major Muhammad Nor Azizan Yahya played patriotic songs.
This was followed by three shouts of “Daulat Tuanku” by the guard-of-honour and the ceremony ended with the recitation of prayers.
Also present were Cabinet ministers, senior officers from all three branches of the army, foreign diplomats, high commissioners, ambassadors and members of the public. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
