KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister and UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has uplift the spirits of Wanita, Youth and Puteri Umno members ahead of the 14th General Election.
Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said Zahid’s speech, when opening the general assemblies of Wanita, Youth and Puteri UMNO Tuesday evening, had encompassed the aspirations of voters.
“Zahid touched on what the people, especially the Malays, are expecting from Umno.
“He reminded us of past successes achieved by Umno in steering not just the Malays, but the nation as a whole.
“He touched on the inclusivity of Umno in looking after every Malaysian, the encompassment in terms of economy, security, international relations and how the nation upholds Islam,” he told reporters after attending the launch.
He also described the content of Zahid’s speech as an early manifestation of what can be expected should Umno and Barisan Nasional be given a strong mandate in the next general election.
At the same time, Khairy said Umno Youth will focus on preparation and winning mentality ahead of the general election during its assembly tomorrow.
“Each wing has been given specific tasks by the deputy prime minister to be fulfilled as soon as possible.
“There will be no delays as we had been told to focus on getting the action done.
“The sense of urgency must be there,” he said.
He said Umno Youth had been tasked to focus on an estimated 1.9 million young, male Malay voters who are under 40 years old.
He added that Umno Youth is in high spirits after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Zahid had stated that there should be more new faces among election candidates.
He noted that although it does not necessarily mean the new faces will come from young people, Umno Youth is taking it with an open mind. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
