KUALA LUMPUR: Police have dismissed a social media posting that a 20-year-old woman, who is also a martial arts champion, had fought off two men who tried to rob and rape her, describing as fake.

Kota Kinabalu police Chief ACP M. Chandra said the posting, which had gone viral since yesterday, was untrue.

“No police report has been made at the Kota Kinabalu or Penampang district police office regarding this case,” he said in a statement today.

He also advised the public to check the authenticity of all news before sharing it online.

“The public are advised to obtain a confirmation if the news are true and not simply share them without checking with the authorities,” he said.

In a post that went viral and picked up by several online new portals as "a true story", the victim was described as a karate champion who had represented Sabah.

She was said to have beaten up the two men when they attacked her. One of them ended up unconscious following the scuffle.
