Klopp fuming as Man Utd named as Liverpool target’s ‘priority’ amid £25m transfer battle
Sofyan Amrabat has reportedly been left out of the Fiorentina squad as Manchester United and Liverpool continue to battle for his signature.
The 27-year-old is considered to be one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe and could prove to be a valuable addition for one of the Premier League rivals.
Erik ten Hag has had his eye on Amrabat for months now and he could be the missing link Man Utd need to challenge for trophies this season.
The Red Devil’s midfield has looked somewhat disjointed in their first two matches this season. Amrabat could form a formidable partnership with Casemiro, though.
Robbie Savage recently declared that Man Utd must sign Amrabat if they want to progress this term, describing the Fiorentina star as a ‘very, very good player.’
Man Utd and Liverpool are yet to make a concrete bid for Amrabat. However, everything suggests the midfielder will leave Fiorentina before the transfer window closes.
Ten Hag managed Amrabat when they were both at Dutch club Utrecht. The Morocco international is fond of the Man Utd boss, which has given the Red Devils an advantage in the race.
Amrabat prefers Man Utd over Liverpool
According to reputed transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Amrabat has been left out of Fiorentina’s squad for their upcoming game against Lecce, as he tries to force through a move to Man Utd.
On Twitter, Romano wrote: “Sofyan Amrabat, not part of Fiorentina squad as he has decided to wait for a move until the end of the window; Manchester United, [his] priority since end of June.
“No official bid from United to Fiorentina yet. United are informed on deal conditions but waiting on outgoings.
Amrabat made 29 Serie A appearances last term. Operating from defensive midfield, he made an average of 1.3 tackles and 0.7 interceptions per match. His performances have gained him a reputation as one of the best number sixes in Europe.
As mentioned by Romano, though, Man Utd need to sell players before they can bring him in. Donny van de Beek, Eric Bailly, Dean Henderson and Brandon Williams are all expected to leave this summer, for example.
If the Red Devils can offload the unwanted quartet, it’s likely they will beat Liverpool to Amrabat’s signature. Reports suggest Fiorentina want around £25m for the Moroccan.
As a result, Liverpool will once again be forced to switch their attention to other midfield targets. They have already missed out of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia this summer, so Jurgen Klopp must be becoming increasingly frustrated.
