Police yesterday arrested a seemingly disturbed man captured in several now-viral videos climbing a billboard and waving a knife in the Bukit Bintang area of Kuala Lumpur.
Officers believe the man was suffering from a mental illness-related episode at the time, resulting in the frightening scene that played out in the popular shopping area.
Initial reports emerged when shoppers along Jalan Bukit Bintang found themselves confronted by the alarming sight of an apparently unstable man waving a knife. The man eventually made his way to a pedestrian bridge near Jalan Pudu, which was also conveniently near police headquarters.
Officers from the Tun H. S. Lee police station were quickly dispatched, along with assistance from nearby Fire and Rescue officers from the Hang Tuah station, with the group trying to subdue the man, who climbed a billboard in an effort to evade them.
Despite sustaining minor injuries in the fracas, the man was eventually subdued and detained at 2:10pm, and taken to the nearby police station for further investigation.
