Malaysian-based low-cost carrier airline AirAsia gives people the chance to efficiently travel around Southeast Asia through their new credit system called the Asean Pass.

The system allows you to explore the ten countries joined together under the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The members include Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines and Laos.

Depending on how efficient your scheduling is, you can visit four of these countries during a month-long trip for only US$160.

Does this sounds interesting and suitable to your traveling habits? Here is how it works.

The credit is available in two packages: the AirAsia Asean Pass package is sold at US$160 for 10 credits and the AirAsia Asean Pass + gives you 20 credits for US$290.

You can use the credits in a one-time booking process where inter ASEAN flights under two hours would cost one credit and longer flights would cost three credits. For instance, you could use a 10-credit package in an itinerary as follows: Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) – Jakarta (Indonesia) – Singapore – Phuket (Thailand), and then return on a reverse path or continue on to other ASEAN countries.

All of the flights must be used within the span of a month and any leftover credits will be considered null – not available for the next booking process.

The first route must be booked at least 14 days in advance and no route can be repeated; for example, going from Jakarta to Bali twice is not allowed.

Generally, this kind of fixed-rate credit system is really beneficial for those who are looking for a multi-destination trip. The lowest return flights for the Jakarta – Bangkok route, for example, are currently priced at US$141; you can travel to more places in between these two cities by using the Asean Pass.

You can also consider purchasing it as a gift for your best friends or loved ones who love traveling and would very much enjoy a trip like this.

Do note that any airport tax and add-ons such as check-in baggage, inflight meals, seats and travel insurance are to be paid separately and travelers must be 12 years old and above.
