One week after announcing the launch of a new product name Beginning, the Korean startup media platform beSUCCESS announced today it has raised an undisclosed pre-Series A round from an international group of investors.

The firms participating included — but were not limited to — DCM Ventures (US), Strong Ventures (US), 500 Startups (US), Hardy Farm Ventures (China), Tokyo Founders Fund (Japan), TheVentures (South Korea), SEUM (South Korea), MOCA Ventures (South Korea) and Startup X (South Korea).

As one would imagine with the timeline of announcements, James Jung, beSUCCESS Founder and CEO, told e27 the company was simultaneously building the new Beginning product while raising money for this latest round.

Jung said it actually did not make much an impact in terms of workload for the team.

“Our whole team focused on ‘product development’. For fundraising, our investors accepted this round with a few emails. [I] appreciate their trust and quick decision,” Jung said.

In many ways, beSUCCESS is similar to e27 in terms of its goals, strategy and product. The company wants to build the Korean startup ecosystem through its media platform (beSUCCESS), by organising and running startup conference (beGLOBAL) and launching a platform to help investors make smarter decisions (Beginning).

When asked what would be an ideal year, Jung answered.

“That will be 2017, after we link up all our branding and [improve] synergy [with] each other. In that direction, we believe that we can add value to the Korean startup community in more efficient ways,” he said.

With the launch of Beginning, beSUCCESS is implementing phase three of its value proposition. Beginning is an online database platform for investors seeking access to key metrics and analysis on Korean startups and a means to directly connect with Korean startups.
