Kris Wu found guilty of rape

28 Nov - Former EXO member Kris Wu has been sentenced to 13 years of imprisonment.

The singer was given 11 years and six months jail time for his 2020 rape case, as well as an addition of one year and 10 months for the "crime of assembling a crowd to engage in sexual promiscuity" that occurred in 2018.

The Beijing's Chaoyang District Court also stated that the singer will be deported after he completes his sentence.

In addition, the court stated that Wu Yifan evaded RMB 95 million in taxes by concealing his personal income, and other underpaid taxes amounting to RMB 84 million.

Kris first rose to fame as a member of K-pop boy band EXO before departing in 2014 for a solo career in mainland China. He became one of the most influential stars in the country prior to his downfall.

Officials from the Canadian embassy in Beijing attended the sentencing, according to Chinese state media, due to the fact that the singer holds a Canadian citizenship.

Kris was first arrested by the Beijing police on suspicion of rape back in July last year after an 18-year-old Chinese student accused him of raping her and several other women back when she was only 17.
