KOTA BARU: As of yesterday, the Kelantan Veterinary Services Department (JPVK) has disposed of 35,999 fowl and 14,330 eggs in an operation to eradicate the H5N1 bird flu epidemic in the state.
In a statement, the JPVK added that 3,392 samples have been taken from 571 fowl owners in six districts affected by the epidemic.
"14 locations in Kota Baru, six in Pasir Mas, three each in Tumpat and Pasir Puteh, and one each in Tanah Merah and Bachok, have been affected by the epidemic.
"So far, no new location has been found to have H5N1," the statement said.
The Kelantan government declared the H5N1 epidemic “a state disaster” on March 15 after several fowl died of the disease in Kampung Pulau Tebu, Tunjong here, on March 6. -- Bernama
