IPOH, Jan 14 — A 40-year-old labourer was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife after he suspected her of having an affair with another man.

In the incident, which happened at the couple’s house in Matang on Thursday night, the 38-year-old wife fell unconscious after her husband hit her.

The mother of four aged between five and 15 was then rushed to the Taiping Hospital. She was suspected of bleeding in the brain and died in the hospital at around 9.30pm the next day.

Taiping Police District Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Taib said the suspect surrendered himself at the Kuala Sepetang Police Station on Friday.

“The suspect came to the police station at around 9.15am and reported the incident. He admitted to hitting her (wife)

“The suspect was arrested in the police station under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt and was remanded for three days until Jan 15,” he said in a statement.

Based on the investigation, Mohamad said the husband allegedly beat his spouse after suspecting her of having a close relationship with a man.

Mohamad said the post-mortem report revealed that the cause of death was due to head injury caused by blunt trauma.

He also added the remand will be extended for further investigation and the case will be re-classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
