Sen. Panfilo Lacson yesterday justified his statements wherein he admitted that Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo was one of the personalities who supported him during the time he was in hiding.
Lacson made his position clear after learning that Justice Secretary Leila de Lima is criticizing him for openly admitting that Robredo participated in his quest to be cleared from murder charges against him in connection to the double murder case of Salvador "Bubby" Dacer and Emmanuel Corbito.
"I was just paying tribute to the kindness of Secretary Robredo. I don't want to comment. Ayoko ng away dahil sa ganitong kalagayan. Nagbibigay lang ako ng tribute, (I don't want war at a time like this, I was just paying tribute to the man)," Lacson said.
Lacson said he and Robredo were not really close. The Cabinet secretary, however, was one of the many people who quietly helped him hurdle one of the many difficult experiences he had in life.
Robredo had tried his best to convince the DOJ secretary to comply with the Court of Appeals decision reversing the Manila Regional Trial Court's ruling on the lack of probable cause found against him.
Lacson said Robredo was "was so real and natural as a person in dealing with people, close friends or not."
"We're not the best of friends but he was kind enough to help me," said Lacson.
"When the CA decision was released wasn't it right for me to go back home? But De Lima didn't want me to. So that was the time when Secretary Robredo found time to talk to De Lima so I can go home. I don't think there's anything wrong with that," Lacson said.
Robredo, he said, did not exactly intercede on his behalf.
"Kaya nagulat ako, di kami matalik na magkaibigan but he was kind enough na tulungan ako.
