We are all taken by it and hardly ever miss out on any occasion to get fired up. However, there isn’t just one style that locals and expats like to celebrate. What else would you expect in a city with so many different cuisines on offer. We put together a list of popular BBQ Singapore – styles.

Nonya BBQ

Being one of Singapore’s famous food instructors and cook book authors, chef Devagi Sanmugam created a delicious Nonya BBQ menu that comes with special delights, such as pineapple glazed pork chops with a homemade peanut sauce. But that’s not all – besides delicious sticky chicken wings, her Nonya BBQ menu also includes especially nonya tamarind glazed chicken wings. Popular among locals and foreigners alike, a Nonya BBQ should also have hot Cheng Tng and nonya Apom Berkuah.

Texan

When thinking of a BBQ, the first thought of many people still surrounds the idea of a North American BBQ – or Texan style to be precise. How can one not love smoked duck breast taco with grilled pineapple and red onion or Stars and Stripes BBQ rips with smoked BBQ glaze. Chef Jeremy Bangar loves BBQs as well and hence created this specific Texas Fiesta menu.

Italian Fusion

Perhaps still unknown to many, but the Italian fusion BBQ style is gaining popularity in Singapore. Italian food has becomeone of the most popular cuisines in Singapore and seems to become more and more attractive for BBQ enthusiasts as well. According to chef Jeremy Bangar Italian fusion BBQ looks something like this: slow cooked grilled porchetta with fig marmalade sea salt as well as lamb and capsicum souvlaki marinated in red wine, garlic and herbs.

Thai BBQ

A niche BBQ perhaps, but nonetheless exciting. Local chef John Ng has created a Thai-inspired BBQ menu called Taste of Siam that fuelled with pure goodness from the grill. A highlight is Sai Ua that includes Chiang Mai sausage and pickled vegetables or perhaps Moo Yang, which is marinated pork neck. However, popular are also dishes such as Gai Yang (classic Thai grilled chicken) and Goong Yang (grilled prawns).

Locals have various ways to get grilling. Depending on who you are talking to, you probably will get a different opinion on what is the best way to do a proper local BBQ Singapore – style. However, just like the entire food culture has plenty of choice, there is not just one correct way to fire up some meat or seafood. When it comes to local food however, there isn’t anyone better to ask than chef Eric Low. His locally-inspired Grill & Chill menu includes culinary feasts, such as grilled rosemary marinated chicken on homemade Pomodoro sauce as well as five spice pork shoulder collar chops with hoisin malt glaze. A local BBQ of course includes also some satay and grilled vegetables.
