“Landman” actress on viral daddy-daughter scene: 'My face turned bright red'
Michelle Randolph's series premiere scene with star Billy Bob Thornton shocked fans.
Recently, Paramount+ announced that Taylor Sheridan's Landman — starring Billy Bob Thornton as an oil company fixer in Texas — is now the streamer's number-one original series of all time. But even those who haven't watched it may have come across a now-viral scene from the premiere, in with Thornton's Tommy has a very, very, very uncomfortable conversation with his 17-year-old daughter, Ainsley (Michelle Randolph), about whether she is having sex with her football-star boyfriend (Drake Rodger).
While the moment in question truly needs to be seen to be believed, suffice it to say that Ainsley describes, in graphic detail, the "rule" she and her boyfriend follow to make sure she won't get pregnant. Watch below... if you dare.
Naturally, the Internet lost its mind, and the scene quickly went viral, with viewers mocking and/or sharing their disbelief at Sheridan's dialogue. And in a recent interview with The Wrap, Randolph revealed that she's seen the online discourse. "How could you not?" she said, adding that she knew the show would cause a stir. "I just thought to myself, ‘How am I going to say this with a straight face, looking into Billy’s eyes?’ I was Ainsley in that moment. I was not Michelle. And as Michelle, I will never be saying that to my father. Let’s be clear.” Once viewers started discussing the clip online, Randolph said, "I just disassociated."

The actress — who also stars as Elizabeth Strafford on Sheridan's Yellowstone prequel, 1923 — added that just making it through the scene during filming was a major challenge. "There was definitely a point where my face turned bright red and we started laughing, because I just couldn’t help it," she told The Wrap. The scene was filmed during a real football game, and Randolph recalls thinking, “They don’t know anything about the show. They don’t know the scripts. They don’t know the premise, and if they can overhear this one line, what do they think that we’re filming?”
