Police and protesters clashed in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday night during an abortion rights rally over the Supreme Court's possible overturning of Roe v. Wade.
According to Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore, police were escorting a group of about 250 demonstrators marching from the federal courthouse to Pershing Square when a segment of the crowd "began to throw rocks and bottles” at police. Moore said that one officer was injured.
One police vehicle was seen with its window smashed, and a citywide police tactical alert was was briefly declared.
Videos posted to social media showed a chaotic scene as an officer tackled a protester, nearly hitting a fire hydrant, while another officer struck protesters with a baton.

Another clip showed an officer who arrived in a Homeland Security vehicle tell a female protester to "back up." The unidentified male officer is then surrounded by demonstrators.
A DHS spokesman did not immediately return a request for comment.

There was no immediate word of any arrests or additional injuries.
The protest was one of dozens triggered by the publication of a draft opinion by Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel Alito suggesting the court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that legalized abortion nationwide.
Thousands abortion rights protesters gathered in cities across the country on Tuesday. And most were peaceful.

In New York City, hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Manhattan's Foley Square, where New York Attorney General Letitia James joined the protest, saying that she announced that nearly two decades ago, she “walked proudly into Planned Parenthood.”
Similar demonstrations were held in cities including Austin, Boston, Denver and Washington, D.C., where protesters rallied outside the Supreme Court for most of the day.
