Las Vegas is attempting to come to terms today with the deadliest mass shooting in US history.

Tributes, flowers and candles have been placed around the area where 59 people were mowed down by Stephen Paddock.

Paddock opened fire on the Route 91 Harvest Festival on the Las Vegas Strip from a room in the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino.

He ended up killing himself on 32nd floor before police could arrest him.

Concert-goers reported seeing muzzle flashes from the upper floors of the hotel-casino across Las Vegas Boulevard from the music event and the sound of what they described as automatic gunfire.

People desperately ran away and multiple victims fell as they fled the gunfire raining down on the concert venue.
