Lawin to bring rains to Cebu, says Pagasa

CLOUDY skies, rainshowers and thunderstorms are expected in Cebu as Typhoon Lawin moves northwest toward Samar, said a Mactan weather bureau official.

Boy Artiaga, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather observer, said the typhoon is moving northwest to Samar at seven kilometers per hour (kph).

He said typhoon signal 1 was raised over Samar provinces yesterday afternoon.

The wind in Metro Cebu was moderate while coastal waters were also moderate and light vessels are allowed to travel.

According to the latest Pag-asa bulletin, Typhoon Lawin was estimated to be at 310 kms. east of Catarman, northern Samar, with maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph.

There will be moderate to strong winds coming from the north to northwest towards the Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas and coming from the west to southwest over the rest of Visayas and Mindanao.

The coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. There wil be light to moderate winds coming from the northeast to northwest over the rest of the Luzon.

The seas will be slight to moderate.

Samar provinces will experience rains and gusty winds. Palawan, Bicol, Mindanao and the rest of the Visayas will have cloudy skies with occasional moderate to heavy rains, which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy with brief rainshowers or thunderstorms.
