Lawmen: Bass Reeves boss talks season 2 future
The boss of Lawmen: Bass Reeves has revealed his plans for the show's second season.
Starring David Oyelowo as the titular federal peace officer of the "Indian Territory" in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the spinoff released its first season on Paramount+ on November 5.
Speaking to Digital Spy, director Damian Marcano revealed his thoughts on whether Bass Reeves might be back for more gun-slinging.
"I would love for it to be… I thoroughly fell in love with the subject matter, and with our filming location."

Continuing, Marcano stated that one surefire way to encourage a second season was fan support, saying: "You know, I think in this business, if it becomes a problem, if enough people want to watch this, then guess what? There will be more."
However, he also warned that the point of the series was to cover multiple different characters – so even though Oyelowo's performance may have been remarkable, it may not be his character that's focused on in future instalments of Lawmen.
"Obviously, as of this point, it is an anthology series that will sort of cover a different lawman each series but David Oyelowo has definitely set the bar high for wherever we go from this point."

From Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, Lawmen: Bass Reeves takes inspiration from the real historical figure behind its title. Oyelowo portrays the Black sheriff who upheld the law in the 1880s and '90s during a time where rights for Black people were non-existent.
Marcano recently told Digital Spy how Bass Reeves fits into the ever expanding Sheridan-verse, describing it as Yellowstone's cousin.
"I think it's a part of the Yellowstone world in the fact that Taylor obviously has the largest stage right now, as far as someone who is creating episodic, large things. Right? Big faces, big names that you see on the small screen," he said.
"I think that this is a cousin to that, but it's definitely nothing like this. He definitely gave us the freedom while making this to essentially pivot and make something that's one of a kind."
