I-League 2017: Minerva Punjab 0-0 DSK Shivajians - A dour draw sees both teams share the spoils

Minerva Punjab were held at home by DSK Shivajians in a dour game that ultimately ended 0-0 with both teams failing to create anything more than half chances.

Surinder Singh opted to make three changes from the side that drew with Bengaluru FC with Bedeshwor Singh, Vinit Rai and Simranjit Singh coming into the side.

Dave Rogers made a solitary change to the side that defeated Shillong Lajong with Jerry Mawihmingthanga being replaced by Sumit Passi.

It was the away side which started strongly with Nirmal Chettri's teasing cross in the box somehow cleared by Loveday before Halicharan Narzary's shot was inches away from testing Arnab Das Sharma in Punjab goal.

In the 11th minute, Narzary again split open the Minerva defence but Passi failed to get on the end of the cross after Arnab Das Sharma was stranded.

About ten minutes later, Passi finally headed on target only to see his goalward effort being blocked by that man Loveday.

In the 25th minute, following a handball from Rai, it was Kim who failed to direct his header on target following a brilliant set piece from Juan Quero.

It took the home side all of 38 minutes to manufacture their first real chance after Germanpreet Singh volleyed an effort towards goal, only to see it go straight to Subrata Paul who had no problem in holding on.

Paul was called into action just before half-time again as he held on to Minerva youngster Bodo's shot from inside the box.

Surinder Singh introduced Anirudh Thapa in place of a struggling Germanpreet after half time and Minerva began to play with much more intent.

With Shivajians focusing on being organised, Minerva had more freedom to play through Thapa and Rai but failed to create anything worthwhile upfront.

The introduction of Girik Khosla in place of Bodo saw Jerry fouling Khosla. Stepping up himself, Khosla's free-kick was acrobatically kept out by Subrata Paul in goal in the 79th minute.

Both teams managed to hold fort and it ended goalless on the night.

The point saw Minerva climb out of the bottom position while Shivajians remained in sixth position.
