The hustling city of Mumbai will host the undefeated Mariners on Wednesday evening in round nine of India's top flight league.
Sanjoy Sen's side heads into the face-off following a goalless draw against arch rivals East Bengal at Siliguri. As for Mumbai, the trembling outfit returns to home soil following an atrocious 2-1 defeat against new entrants Chennai City.
Mohun Bagan shared spoils with The Red and Gold brigade on Sunday evening in a disappointing derby. Sen was gutted at missing out on the two points. However, he could find solace in the strength of their attack.
Darry Duffy has netted five goals in this edition and fellow man Jeje Lalpekhlua's form too has been on the ascendancy. Sen will hope that the lack of goals in the Kolkata derby was an aberration and nothing else.
However, the team's talisman Sony Norde is suffering from knee pain and is doubtful to feature against The Mumbaikars. Winger Kean Lewis and defender Kinshuk Debnath too have been sidelined for the tie following injury concerns. 26-year-old Raju Gaikwad is another player who won't feature in the starting eleven, as the Mumbai born defender is still recovering from a knock he suffered, at the start of the season.
As for the hosts, it couldn't get any worse. The Yellow Submarines are way down the league table, at the ninth spot. The team's downfall began at Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru and doesn't seem to come to an end no matter what Kashyap tries.
Mediocre midfield, shaky defense and an inability to finish off the chances created, are some of the reasons for their shoddy performances. Their woes have also expanded as skipper Steven Dias is set to miss the face-off against the Maroon and Green brigade. Lalchhawnkima has shown no signs of returning ever since his injury against Albert Roca's side, whereas, striker Victorino Fernandes and central midfielder Pratesh Shirodkar are also on the escalating injury list.
Mumbai will now have to depend on new recruits Anderson Silva, Mehrajuddin Wadoo and Djelaludin Sharityar to save them from any more misery as they look to turn around from the six losses they have suffered in a row following their smart start to the season.
Kick off is at 7PM IST at Cooperage Football Stadium with Mohun Bagan being the absolute favourites to grab the three points.
