League of Legends RPG Ruined King gets first gameplay trailer

The first gameplay trailer for Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, a single-player, turn-based RPG set in the League of Legends (LoL) universe, has finally been revealed at the 2020 Game Awards.

The trailer gives us a glimpse into the game’s setting, combat, characters, and the titular Ruined King. Players can explore dungeons from a Diablo-style, overhead perspective then engage enemies in side-viewed, turn-based battles with a three-member party comprised of popular LoL champions Illaoi, Miss Fortune, Braum, Pyke, Yasuo, and Ahri.

Game studio Airship Syndicate, which is developing Ruined King alongside publisher Riot Forge, boasts that the game will introduce a new spin on the RPG genre, particularly with its turn-based, lane initiative combat system.

Each champion in a player’s party will take turns casting lane, instant, and ultimate abilities, while also having the ability to use both items and passive abilities to further aid them in combat.

Players will have to keep tabs on each champions’ health, mana, overcharge bar, and a turn order under to keep them in prime fighting and dungeon-exploring shape under this system.

While the champions of Ruined King will follow traditional RPG roles, they will also have stats based from the original LoL MOBA, such as Attack Power, Will, Stamina, Physical Defense, Magic Defense, Critical Damage, Critical Chance, Haste, Evade, Armor Penetration, Magic Penetration, and Lifesteal.

Aside from exploring dungeons and engaging in battles, Ruined King also gives players a chance to partake in recreational activities earn rewards or uncover new lore about the LoL universe, such as fishing, puzzle solving, exploration, and more.

Ruined King was first revealed to be in development at the end of last year for consoles and PC, with an official announcement trailer being released at the end of October this year. While Riot initially slated the game for an early 2021 release, it has been delayed later into the year.
