PM Lee Hsien Loong says Cabinet reshuffle likely in early June: report
SINGAPORE — Singapore will likely see a Cabinet reshuffle in early June, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Friday (13 May, US time).
According to The Straits Times, PM Lee was responding to questions by journalists on Cabinet movements, after attending the ASEAN-United States Special Summit in Washington. He said that he expects to announce the changes after upcoming overseas trips.
"I am working at it. I had to focus on this trip, and I have another trip coming up in two weeks' time, going to the Nikkei conference," he said, referring to the 27th International Conference on the Future of Asia organised by the Nikkei business media group on 26 and 27 May.
"But I am working at it and hope I shall be able to do it once I am done with my trips, which means early June."
The Straits Times reported that the upcoming Cabinet reshuffle will likely see Finance Minister Lawrence Wong - PM Lee's likely successor - being promoted to deputy prime minister.
Wong was announced last month as the top choice to head Singapore's fourth-generation team of political leaders. This paved the way for the 49-year-old to become the city-state's next prime minister.
