[UPDATED 12:20pm on 20 March 2015: Added Friday statement of PMO]

Former Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew "remains critically ill", the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement released just after noon on Friday.

It added that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, his son, "would like to thank the public for their support and good wishes".

The Friday update was similar to Thursday's announcement that the elder Lee remained criticlally ill in  intensive care.

On Wednesday, the PMO said that the 91-year-old Lee's condition had deteriorated, a day after saying his condition had worsened due to an infection.

The Thursday update came after a "doctored" PMO statement about his passing was circulated Wednesday. A government spokesperson said police have been asked to investigate the fake announcement.

Lee, 91 has been warded at the Singapore General Hospital since 5 Feb for severe pneumonia. Some members of the media and the public have been camping out at SGH, waiting for word on Lee's health.
