Liam Hemsworth has officially filed for divorce from Miley Cyrus, after almost eight months of marriage.
Hemsworth cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split and has hired renowned Hollywood divorce attorney Laura Wasser.
Cyrus' rep said in a statement: “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.”
Hemsworth briefly addressed their split on Instagram a few days later, writing that he wishes his ex-wife “nothing but health and happiness going forward”.
“This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and love.”
Cyrus spoke about the inevitability of change in a lengthy Instagram caption: “Don’t fight evolution, because you will never win.”
Attention around their break-up peaked after the singer was seen kissing her friend and Brody Jenner’s ex, Kaitlyn Carter, during a holiday in Italy.
Cyrus and Hemsworth first met on the set of the 2010 film The Last Song and dated on and off for 10 years, finally tying the knot in a surprise wedding in Tennessee in December last year.
