LANGKAWI: The maritime segment of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2017 (LIMA’17) officially kicked off today with an opening ceremony and special demonstrations by the elite forces of Malaysia's enforcement agencies.
Launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak earlier today, the maritime exhibition will see showcases by major participants such as the Thales group, MAST, ACS Defense and SAAB, all of whom will display the latest and most cutting-edge in defence technologies.
As part of the opening gambit, Malaysia’s elite forces searched a box containing a key needed to activate the launch sequence.
Using advanced unmanned equipment, the key was located by Special Forces from the Royal Malaysian Navy, and was handed over to Navy Chief, Tan Sri Ahmad Kamarulzaman Ahmad Badaruddin, who then handed it to Najib.
Following the launch, a live demonstration by the Navy Special Forces (Paskal), the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), the Marine police and the Marine Department on a hostage rescue mission at sea was staged.
Also present at the event was Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, ministry representatives, as well as exhibitors and delegates.
