Linesman files suit against Flames player Wideman

Dennis Wideman of the Calagary Flames was slapped with a 10-game ban after hitting linesman Don Henderson from behind

A National Hockey League linesman has filed a $7.6 million (C$10.25 million) lawsuit against Calgary Flames defenceman Dennis Wideman.

Don Henderson filed the claim in a Calgary court saying that he has been unable to return to work after being hit from behind by Wideman who was suspended by the league, the Calgary Herald reported Thursday.

Wideman was originally slapped with a 20-game ban but appealed and got it reduced to 10 games.

The incident happened in a January 2016 contest in Calgary between the Flames and the Nashville Predators.

The claim alleges "Wideman intentionally and deliberately struck (the plaintiff)."

According to his lawsuit, Henderson suffered injuries to his head, neck back, shoulder, and right knee.
